When you disconnect from the essential rhythm of life, the body feels it.
Breath becomes shorter, movement turns mechanical, energy stagnates or scatters.
You may still be moving, but no longer in tune with that deep pulse that has always moved through us.
You may find it hard to let go, to surrender, to feel part of a rhythm greater than yourself.
Primitive Expression invites you to reconnect with that ancestral rhythm — one that is not thought, but felt, inhabited, and moved.
You may recognize yourself here…
This space may resonate with you if:
- You feel rigidity or accumulated tension in your body
- You find it difficult to let go of control and surrender to movement
- You miss moving in a group, within a shared rhythm
- You feel disconnected from your vital energy
- You are looking for a simple, intense, and authentic body-based practice
Not because something is missing in you, but because the body needs spaces where it can express itself instinctively and freely.
What will you experience in this workshop?
A collective movement experience based on:
- Rhythm, repetition, and play, through simple gestures and vocalizations.
- Music and percussion as support for movement
- Bodily expression without steps or technique
- Group energy, presence, and connection
Although the movement leaves space for personal expression, the practice is guided, supported by rhythm, clear cues, and the structure of the group. Furthermore, this is not about “dancing well.” It is about releasing what is held inside, and restoring vitality, strength, and grounding.
What is Primitive Expression?
Primitive Expression is a collective movement practice rooted in rhythm, repetition, and simple, powerful gestures. It draws inspiration from traditional and ancestral dances and was developed in France by France Schott-Billmann, building on the work of Hernâni Duplan and the heritage of Afro-Caribbean dances.
This practice invites a return to essential, instinctive, and shared movement, where the body expresses itself beyond words and rhythm becomes a common language.

I got to experience a beautiful dance therapy session with Lara. I could really feel her passion and knowledge in the session, but also her sensitivity and care. She was really very receptive of my process, what I needed, and through that had a very powerful transforming session.
